  By far the worst church I have ever been to. It is more like an exclusive club than a church. They have a special room above their lobby where the church bigwigs watch sports on a massive movie screen. No one from the outside public is allowed inside. The hypocrisy! All of this makes me think of when Jesus went to the temple and saw men selling animals and charging to trade money right inside the temple grounds. Jesus was very angry and turned over the tables and forced the merchants out. Why? Because it was a place of worship, a holy place for meeting and serving God.

  As a Nisei, I have repeated have had negative experiences with this church. I have been a member of this Japanese American church for many years and they treat me very poorly. I have been very generous in the area of donations and my kids have volunteered for this church for many years. My wife Karen is Caucasian and they treated her badly. We have repeatedly fought with each other because of this issue. I told her that she didn't understand the Asian way of being reserved. She accused the church members of being self-absorbed arrogant snobs. We eventually ended up getting divorced. This is not the way Christians are supposed to behave. Furthermore, I also disapprove of their lavish spending. Someone told me they have a giant screen TV is a room where most of the church members are not given access. I did not believe it so I asked around. And to my horror discovered that this was true. Why does one need a big screen TV at a church? You don't need it for presentations or for screening Christian movies. I was at Manzanar where we lived on rations and ordered things from Sears catalogues. There are many other churches in the Gardena area like All Nation Seventh Day Baptist Church on Normandie or Calvary Baptist Church by El Camino College. I am very angry and I never will go to this church again! They are hypocrites and they are need to study the scriptures more and watch less TV

  I am not a big fan of this church. We are not Japanese but my wife is a Hapa from Honolulu. We recently moved to Gardena and was looking for a place of worship. We went to this church in June. What we were shocked was how they poorly they treated us. When we entered the church they were very unwelcoming and acted as if we did not belong there. After the service, when I held out my hand to the pastor to shake his hand he just blew right past me. I could not believe it. When I asked my Japanese neighbor about the church, he admitted to me that the church does not like "Gai-jin". I told him that they have white people on their staff. He told me that that was just a front. When I visited the YELP website, I noticed how they filtered all of their negative reviews and keep all their positive ones. They are really corrupt. Avoid this church at all costs.

  I have attended this church for many years. It was the church that introduced me to my Savior and Lord Jesus. It has been the church that has nurtured my faith and help me grow into a more mature Christian. It has been the church that has helped my children know and love the Lord. Like any human institution, GVBC is not perfect. We all have flaws and areas where we can improve. But, overall, this church has been an incredible blessing to myself and hundreds of others. It has been a light in the community and I pray that this church, my church, will continue to share the Gospel until we are all called home. God Bless GVBC.
